What is bulk density?

Mass of substrate per unit volume, measured on a dry basis. Unit: kg/m³ or g/L. Coir pith bulk density: 40–90 kg/m³. Peat moss: 60–120 kg/m³. Lower bulk density means lighter containers and lower freight cost per liter of substrate. Bulk density is a mandatory guarantee parameter for substrates in Brazil under IN MAPA 5/2016.
