What is container capacity?

Maximum water content a container substrate holds after gravitational drainage, with no further suction. Container capacity depends on substrate properties, container height and drainage design. It is conceptually similar to field capacity in soil science but applied to containerized media. A key parameter for scheduling irrigation frequency in commercial greenhouse production.
