What is coconut husk?

Fibrous outer layer of the coconut fruit comprising the exocarp (outer skin) and mesocarp (fibrous tissue). The husk represents approximately 35% of the weight of a mature coconut and is the raw material from which coir fiber and coir pith are extracted. Green coconut husk is 80–85% of gross weight and is wetter and softer than dry husk.
