What is moisture content?

Water percentage of substrate by weight or volume. For coir, the critical moisture content is the drying target before compression: <20% moisture prevents mold growth during ocean transit and storage. Moisture is measured by oven-drying at 105 °C to constant weight. Excessively low moisture (<8%) can make coir hydrophobic and slow to rehydrate.
