What is particle size distribution?

Proportions of substrate particles by size class, determined by sieving through a series of standard mesh sizes. Granulometry is “the name” in Romero’s “name and surname” framework: it determines a substrate’s water retention, air porosity and drainage characteristics. Fine, medium and coarse grades have distinct granulometric profiles suited to different crop types.
