What is CIF (cost, insurance, freight)?

International trade pricing term (Incoterm) where the seller covers the cost of goods, marine insurance and freight to the named destination port. The buyer assumes risk once goods cross the ship’s rail at the port of loading but the seller pays freight. CIF pricing is common in coir trade with buyers in the Americas and Europe.
