What is coir fiber?

Fibers mechanically extracted from the mesocarp of mature coconut. Individual fibers are 10–30 cm long and 0.1–1.5 mm in diameter. Used in ropes, mats, brushes, mattress pads, geotextiles, erosion-control blankets and as a structural component in substrate blends. Coir fiber has high lignin content (40–45%), which gives it resistance to biological degradation.
